Health Benefits of Hot and Cold Showers

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

Alternating hot and cold water is a simple yet powerful way to improve your health. It can stimulate white blood cell production – our immune system fighters. It also increases metabolism, circulation, oxygen absorption, and carbon dioxide excretion. It’s a great way to get blood flowing in these stagnant times of isolation.

What to do:

First start with a hot shower. Be sure to get nice and warm. Follow with turning the tap all the way cold. Stay in the cold for as long as is bearable, anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds. Then return it to hot for 3 minutes. Repeat this two to three more times, finishing your shower with cold.

If it’s too tough to take, direct the cold phase water only on the feet. Over time you can increase to legs, abdomen, and chest.

To take it a step further you can alternate hot and cold water in

buckets with the hot water at 40 degrees Celsius and the cold bucket between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius with added ice.

Repeat this daily if possible or a minimum of 3 times per week. Notice a feeling of exhilaration and increased energy after each treatment.

Some existing health concerns that might be impacted by this treatment including cancer, vascular disease, or hemorrhage.Contact Dr. Dawn to find out if hot and cold therapy is right for you.
